Our very own Valarie Coston, GM of The Mercantile Hotel New Orleans, has been selected to star as the Face of New Orleans for a new campaign produced by New Orleans TV and Destination Media Travel, running from 2018 to 2024.
Valarie will talk about the culture and history of New Orleans, as well as introducing popular nightlife, restaurants and attractions – and, of course, highlighting The Mercantile Hotel. The campaign will welcome travelers to New Orleans and will be played on the default local channel in more than 100,000 hotel rooms. And as if that wasn’t enough, Valarie has also been invited to do the Convention Center welcome video for the 2019 Super Bowl in Atlanta, GA. The video will be broadcasted on local guide channels in various New Orleans hotels, which equals up to about 50,000 TVs, featuring all of The Mercantile Hotel’s unique characteristics.
We sat down with Valarie to learn more about this opportunity and what it means to her – and Innisfree Hotels.
How were you selected to be The Face of New Orleans?
I turned down the offer two times before the Executive Producer flew down to meet me and walk the rooms and hotel. We hit it off immediately. He was amazed by the hotel. He personally asked me to do the videos here in New Orleans. He loved my passion and knowledge of the city. I will be doing all the welcome videos and also highlight The Mercantile Hotel on more than 107,000 hotel TVs, as well as the videos for the New Orleans Convention Center. There will be a huge viewing party, and the videos will start playing on July 14.
What does this project mean to you?
It means nothing to me personally, but it means everything for the hotel. I love that the deal I made with New Orleans TV allows me to feature The Mercantile. When I walked into this hotel to interview for the GM position, it was an instant love and I saw the beauty. This is a big deal because they never feature boutique hotels.
How do you bring your New Orleans knowledge and enthusiasm into your work at The Mercantile Hotel?
All I could think was this could be an amazing place where I could bring culture into the hotel. The families can grow with me. I want everyone to know about this beautiful hotel. When I saw the building, I felt at home.
